ATHOL - Leon A. Bedard, 89 of Athol, died Friday, January 22, 2021 in the Athol Hospital.
He was born in Newport, Vermont, on April 17, 1931, the son of the late Alfred M. and the late Jessie M. (Bidwell) Bedard.
Leon grew up in Lowell, Vermont. He was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army. Upon his discharge from the Army, he moved to the Athol Area. Mr. Bedard worked at the former Union Twist Drill for many years and retired from KRH Rolls in Orange.
He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a member of the Athol V.F.W. Post No. 650. He enjoyed fishing, watching golf and soap operas on television.
He was predeceased by his wife of 39 years, Tekla (Leszczuk) Bedard who passed in 2017.
He leaves his sister, Jean Duplessis of Athol; sister, Arlene Warner of Rutland, VT; brother, Arnold Bedard of Buffalo, Missouri; step-daughter, Helena Nyman of Gardner; step-son, Stephan Lech of Pepperell; step-grandchildren, Kristina Lucas of Clinton, MA, Robert P. Nyman of South Carolina, Joanna Williams of Pepperell, Travis Lech of Pepperell and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Lucille Hoadley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at 11:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial with military honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331.
