Leontine L.(Valley) Hanshaw, 82, of 42 Church St., Athol, died Saturday evening at home.
She was born June 29, 1921, daughter of the late John and Maude (Porter) Valley and lived here all of her life. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol and was previously employed by the B.P. Sousa Service Stations in Orange, Westminster and Leominster.
Leontine enjoyed auctions, flea markets, shopping and collecting dolls.
She is survived by three daughters, Cynthia Merrill and her husband, Fred of Winchester, NH, Carole Burns of Orange, Leanne Cummings and her husband, Michael, of Orange and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Hanshaw of Athol. She leaves her grandchildren, Sandra Bezio, Anne Hanshaw, Deanna Melanson, Deana Wright, John Masaitis, Larry Hanshaw, Alicia Kenneway and Cheryl Wilder, all of Athol; Crystal Maronie of Orange, Victor Masaitis of Lunenburg and Eric Hanshaw of Winchester, NH and sixteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Lawrence "Bucky" Hanshaw and her longtime companion, Arthur F. Savage, both of Athol and three grandchildren, Sherman Wilder, Carl Wilder, Sherry Wilder and her former husband, Lawrence Hanshaw.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol, Wednesday with a Funeral Mass in Our Lady Immaculate Church, Athol at 10AM. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours at the funeral home are from 7-9 PM Tuesday.
