ATHOL – Lester E. “Gene” Fletcher, 85 of Athol, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Quabbin Valley Health Care, Athol.
Gene was born on August 10, 1932 in Dodridge County, Given, West Virginia to the late Charles E. Fletcher and the late Violet (Van Horn) Fletcher.
Lester attended school in Dodridge County and Parkersburg, WV. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U. S. Air Force. After 26 years of service, Gene retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Senior Master Sargeant in 1977. In December of 1954 Lester married Dorothy H. Thompson and they enjoyed 52 years together. He enjoyed cars, guns, crossword puzzles, scenic puzzles, traveling the United States, being on his computer and family home movies. He was a caring and devoted husband, son, brother and friend and will be missed by many.
Gene is survived by his sister: Roberta M. (Fletcher) Duteau of OH; caregivers: Diane Gray and her husband Gary of Athol; Rose Vallin and family whose children were like grandchildren to Dot and Gene; sister-in-law: Shirley Horton; brother-in-law: Robert Thompson and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceaed by his wife of 52 years: Dorothy H. (Thompson) Fletcher; two brothers: Charels E. Fletcher Jr. and James Fletcher.
A calling hour followed by Air Force Honors will be held on Sunday, March 4, 2018 from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
