Lilianne Babineau

November 4, 1931 — September 18, 2023

Groton/Leominster

Lilianne McGrath Babineau, age 91, of Groton formerly of Leominster, beloved wife, and mother, passed away in the early hours of September 18, 2023.

Lilianne was born November 4,1931 in St Isadore, New Brunswick Canada. She immigrated to the US as a young woman in the 1960s looking for a brighter future and met her husband Napoleon in Gardner, Massachusetts.

Lilianne was a devoted member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church in Leominster, Massachusetts. She was well known on French Hill as an excellent seamstress, altering clothes for family, friends, and a dry cleaner in Fitchburg. Lilianne made baptism bibs for St. Cecilia’s Church and was an active member of the Ladies of St. Anne.

She raised three children in Leominster and had boundless energy, always cooking, sewing, and gardening. Her cooking skills were legendary, with family favorites like Canadian meat pie and rhubarb pie made from her own rhubarb plants.

Lilianne's love for music and her constant humming of French tunes brought joy to our lives. She was a strong woman throughout her life, and though her health declined in recent years, her spirit remained unwavering.

Lilianne leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, joining her parents Willie and Emma McGrath, husband Napoleon Babineau, and siblings Alonzo McGrath, Imelda Hache, Gillis McGrath, and Euclide McGrath in eternal rest. She is survived by her children and grandchildren. Emil and his wife, Diana of Travelers Rest, SC, along with their children, Maxime and Julia. Mona of Westford, MA. Donald and his wife, Sarah of Rockville, MD. She is also leaving her siblings, Bertha Sivret, Julienne Savoie, Andre McGrath, and Andrea Savoie, all of New Brunswick, Canada.

We will honor her life at Simard Funeral Home on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 9:00 - 10:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Cecilia Parish at 11:00 a.m. EDT. She will be laid to rest at St. Cecilia's Cemetery
