GARDNER- Lillian Marks Haddad, 88, of Gardner, died on Saturday,
August 6, 2011, at the Heywood Hospital in Gardner.
She was born on December 28, 1922, in Winsted, Connecticut, the
daughter of the late Nahim and Kareeme (Sawayer) Marks. She moved to
Gardner with her family in 1925. She was a telephone operator, a
receptionist and later worked on the third floor for Greenwood &
Posser at Heywood Wakefield Furniture. She married Haleem "Hank"
Haddad in 1946 and together they lived in New York until 1951, when
they returned to Gardner to raise their family.
She worked at Atter's Market for forty years as a cashier before
running the Delicatessen department, which catered many events in the
Gardner area. She retired in 1985.
Lil was predeceased by her husband in 1984. She was also predeceased
by two brothers, Joseph Marks and Kary Marks; and by two sisters, Jo
Marks and Betty Marks.
A loving and caring soul, Lil leaves behind daughter, Karen (Haddad)
Potter and her husband Brian of Chatsworth, California, a son David
Haddad and his wife Gita of Ashburnham, and daughter Marie Haddad of
Norwalk, Connecticut; three grandchildren, Mary Cassidy of Millville,
Courtney Potter of Los Angeles and Kary Haddad of New York City; and
one great-granddaughter, Amy Wooley (currently attending Kent State in
Ohio). She is also survived by her sister Jennie (Marks) Barakat of
West Roxbury, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and
great nephews.
A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 11:00
a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. There are no
calling hours and guests attending the Mass are requested to meet at
the church. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Gardner, will be
private.
