GARDNER - Lorraine J. (Baker) Bell, 76 of 21 Lennon Street, Gardner, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009 in the Heywood Hospital, Gardner. She was born in Danbury, CT, on June 29, 1932, the daughter of the late William and the late Elizabeth (Chervenecky) Baker. Lorraine graduated from Norwalk High School, Norwalk, CT with the class of 1950. She graduated from the Norwalk Hospital School of Nursing in 1953 and went on to receive her B.S. in Nursing from Boston University School of Nursing in 1957. Mrs. Bell was a Charter member of Acoustic Neuroma Association which she founded with seven other people in 1981. She was the membership chairperson for the organization for ten years. She was Trustee Emeritus of Heywood Hospital serving 25 years. She was a member of the Hospital Aid Association. She was a volunteer tutor in after school and summer programs at the House of Peace & Education in Gardner. She worked as a community nurse for the Gardner Visiting Nursing Association and for Montachusett Home Care retiring in 1994. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She leaves two daughters, Elaine C. Bell of Marshfield, MA; Kris M. Lynch of Gardner, three grandchildren, Vanessa, Evan and Jared and several cousins in Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, March 20, 2009 at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross St., Gardner. Burial will be in the spring in St. John's Cemetery. A calling hour will be held Friday, March 20, 2009, from 9 - 10 a.m. at the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to House of Peace & Education 20 Barthel Ave., Gardner, MA 01440.
