TEMPLETON - Lorraine Yvonne Couillard, of Templeton, died December 27th 2017.
She was born in Gardner, MA. June 21, 1931 to Aurele and Irene (Charland) Bernard. She was educated at Holy Rosary School and Gardner High School, and was a 1952 graduate of Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.She married R. Edwin Couillard on May 30th, 1952, and was married 60 years before his death in 2013. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her sister Jeannette Vaillancourt, and many relatives in the United States and Canada.
She is survived by her daughter Darcy of Morris, CT, her sons Edwin (Sharon) of Idaho, Jon (Kristin) of Belchertown, Peter (Diana) of Templeton her longtime caregivers, Craig of Phillipston, and grandchildren Jordan, Brielle, Kyle, Dineen and Ryan Couillard.
In Templeton she was active civically as president of the Templeton Center School PTA, the Narragansett Historical Society, and was secretary for the Templeton Historical Commission when Templeton Common was added to the National Register of Historic Places and the Templeton Broadside was presented to the MA Archives at the State House. Lorraine was a Den Mother, Boy Scout supporter, was an avid member of the Mr. & Mrs. Club, organized and participated in many Narragansett scholarship musicals called ”Dollars for Scholars.” She helped coordinate of the Templeton craft fair with her cousin Gladys Salame several times.
She and Ed moved to Vermont following her retirement from MA Dept. of Mental Health, then later to Arizona. During her retirement years in Tunbridge Vt, Lorraine volunteered for the Tunbridge historical society and helped for many years with the Tunbridge Worlds Fair. She worked as a volunteer guide at the Billing Farm Museum in Woodstock Vt. Showing people the workings of a real live Vermont farm. In Arizona, she was a member of St. Clemente of Rome church, the Ladies Guild of the church, and the New England Club of Sun City. She and Ed also loved baseball and therefore volunteered for the Milwaukee Brewers spring cactus league games; a favorite of theirs. In her final years, Lorraine returned to Templeton and lived at Baldwinville Skilled Nursing and Rehab center. While there, she continued to volunteer her time as president of the resident association and worked diligently at all fund raising events held at the facility. Upon returning to Massachusetts, Lorraine was once again treated to her home town sports teams she loved so dearly, the Sox, Bruins and of course the Patriots. Lorraine and Ed loved to travel, with friends and family visiting 49 states and traveled in Europe several times.
A remembrance mass will be held for Lorraine and Ed on January 27 at 11am. At St Vincent de Paul Church 18 Pleasant St. Baldwinville Mass. with refreshments to follow in the church hall.
