Louis Henry Whipple, age 87, of Athol died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Heywood Hospital in Gardner. Louis was born September 22, 1929 in Baldwinville. He is the son of the late John Louis and the late Gertrude Irene (Upham) Whipple.
He was employed by Union Twist Drill for 22 years and worked for Temple Stuart Furniture for 2 years.
Louis grew up in Baldwinville where he attended schools and lived until moving to Athol in 1957. He later attended Mount Wachusett Community College in Gardner where he received his general degree and a degree in art.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from 9-26-1947 to 9-25-1951 and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant.
Louis was a member of the North Quabbin Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. for over 50 years serving as Master of Athol Lodge in 1965. He was a former scout master with the Boy Scouts in Baldwinville. He enjoyed oil painting.
He is survived by one daughter: Lisa Wright of Monroe, NC; one sister: Marion Wallace of Athol, and two brothers: John Whipple of Baldwinville, and William Whipple of TX.
He is predeceased by his wife Grace M. (Johnson) Whipple on June 19, 2010 and by his sisters Pricilla and Shirley.
Services will be private.
