MARLBORO- The Sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of Sr. Lucille Martel, formally known as Sr. Lucille-du-Divin-Coeur, who died peacefully after a long illness on August 30, 2021 at Alliance Health at Marie Esther in Marlboro, Mass. She was a native of Southbridge, Mass., the daughter of Rosalind (Lorange) Martel and Almanzar Martel. Sr. Lucille entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption on August 21, 1954. Following her profession on February 15, 1957, she served in the ministry of education in parochial schools, as a teacher in Bristol and Meriden, CT, Salem, Brockton, Spencer, Lowell and Indian Orchard, MA. For 28 years, she served as Elementary School Principal in Northbridge, Brockton, Lowell, MA and Bristol, CT. From 1993 to 2011, Sr. Lucille was Circulation Manager for the Catholic Free Press in Worcester, MA, where she continued to be very much appreciated by her colleagues, friends and everyone who knew her. Sr. Lucille will be missed by the members of her Congregation, the Sisters of the Assumption, especially her dear friend, Sr. Lorraine Normand. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 4 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel at Alliance Health at Marie Esther, Marlboro, MA. Sr. Lucille will be laid to rest in East Street Cemetery, Petersham, MA.
