Lucille B. Vallee

November 23, 1922 — January 7, 2021

GARDNER - Lucille B. (Houle) Vallee 98, a lifelong resident of Gardner, passed peacefully at her home on January 7, 2021. She was born in Montreal, Canada, on November 23, 1922, the daughter of Oscar E. and Blanche A. (Benoit) Houle. Predeceasing her were her husband George Vallee (2005), son Terry Vallee (2002), sister Cosette (Houle) Breau (2013) of Gardner, and brother Paul Houle (2003) of Pittsfield. Lucille attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from Gardner High School in 1940. After graduation she went to work as a secretary in the law office of Hoban & Moore. She married George Vallee, a WWII veteran, on May 18,1946 and started raising her family in 1948. Once Larry and Terry were in college, she went to work for the City of Gardner as the Vision and Hearing tester for all of the city’s schoolchildren. She was always an active community volunteer working for years in the city voting polls, and co-chairing GHS Class of 1940 reunions. A prolific knitter and crocheter, Lucille made lots of afghan blankets, slipper socks, sweaters, and mittens for all of the grandkids, nieces, and nephews. She also knitted several lap robes for distribution to many of the elderly in our local Nursing Homes.She is survived by her son Larry Vallee of Duxbury, MA and his wife Ruth, Larry’s sons Shawn Vallee and family in Boca Raton FL, and Greg Vallee and family of Dover, NH, and their mother Janet Vallee of Delray Beach, FL. Her youngest son Terry Vallee of Gardner died in 2002 and is survived by his son Jason Vallee and family of Camden, ME. She is also survived by her sister -in- law Anita Houle of Pittsfield, her nephews Steven Houle, and Glenn Houle of Pittsfield, David Houle of Charlotte NC, and her nieces Elizabeth Williams of Pittsfield, and Patricia Cometti of Charlotte NC. and their families. The family acknowledges the great and loving care that the French Connection staff provided to her as well as the Gardner Visiting Nurses Association Hospice.Given the present situation with Covid-19, visitation and funeral services will be private and will be administered by the Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central St. Gardner, MA.
