Luis N. Acevedo

Luis N. Acevedo Athol – Luis N. Acevedo, 56, of 9 Kendall Street, died Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Athol Memorial Hospital.        He was born in Havana, Cuba, February 16, 1955, the son of Nildo and Raquel (Moya) Acevedo.  He came to Miami at age four where he grew up graduating from high school and college.  He moved to Westminster, MA in 1996 where he and his wife adopted four children and since 2001 has resided in Athol.  He was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church and the family has always felt a great closeness to their church and the care and compassion they received especially from former pastor Fr. Steve Johnson.   He enjoyed smoking a good Cuban cigar, but most especially loved spending time with his wife and children.  Luis was a writer most of his life and was especially known for his editorials in the Athol Daily News and several other area papers.  Many of his articles were sent throughout the country with the Associated Press.      He leaves his wife of 30 years, Maggie I. (Lopez) Acevedo; his children, David Acevedo of Fitchburg, Ashley Acevedo of Tampa, FL, Alexis and Kelli Acevedo, both of Athol; and his mother, Raquel Acevedo of Miami, FL.      Calling hours will be Sunday, July 17, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, MA.  The family suggests those wishing to make a donation in Luis’ memory make it to the North Quabbin Citizen Advocacy, P.O.
