M. Bertha Dabkowski

July 31, 1920 — April 5, 2008

ATHOL - M. Bertha (Chaisson) Dabkowski, 87, of 263 Sanders St., Athol, died peacefully Saturday, April 5, 2008 in the Baldwinville Nursing Home, with her family by her side. She was born in New Brunswick, Canada on July 31, 1920, the daughter of the late Eli and the late Anna (Godin) Chaisson. She moved to Athol as a young child and has spent most of her life there. She graduated from Athol High School in 1938. For many years she was a homemaker, and she enjoyed cooking. She later worked at Sears, Athol Fuel Company, and the former Temple's Oil Company in the accounting department, before her retirement. She was a member of the former Catholic Women's League of Our Lady Immaculate Church, and the Red Hat Society of Baldwinville Nursing Home. She was devoted to her religion and her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She leaves two sons, Chester J. Dabkowski, Jr. and wife Kerry of Plymouth, and Michael Dabkowski of Mickleton, NJ; three daughters, Elaine King and husband Wilfred "Junior" King of Orange, Jane Pichette and husband Brian of Umatilla, FL, Andrea Genest and companion Ray Gill of Jamestown, RI; one sister, Evangeline Chaisson and husband Omer Chaisson of Athol; one brother, Howard Gauvin of Athol; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Morse of Myrtle Beach, SC; also thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Chester J. "Chet" Dabkowski, in 2002; also by her son, Dennis Dabkowski; by her sister, Andrea Chaisson; and by two brothers, Valmond Chaisson and Lawrence Chaisson. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2008 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main St., Athol.
