Marcella "Chubby" (Stalilionis) Koczan

Athol- Marcella “Chubby” (Stalilionis) Koczan, 90, Of Athol, died Tuesday August 7, 2012 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol, MA>     She was born in Athol, on August 23, 1921, the daughter of the late John and the late Cecelia (Strapakas) Stalilionis and lived here all her life. She graduated from Athol High School in 1939.     Mrs. Koczan worked at the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company for 28 years, retiring in 1981 when the factory closed. Previously she worked at the L.S.Starrett Company for 6 years.     She was a communicant of the St. Francis Church and a member of its Women’s Guild, and the Athol Golden Agers. She enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, reading, and was an avid dancer in her younger years.     She leaves one daughter: Christine Hause of Athol and her companion, John Linker, of North Orange. She also leaves behind one grandson, Sven Hause, two great grandchildren, Olivia and Chase Hause, one brother in-law, Stanley Koczan and his wife Nellie of Gardner, and two sister in-laws, Mary Sawicki of Otter River and Roberta Stalilionis of Orange.     She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years: Frank Koczan, who died in 2009, and her brother: Mamert “Monty” Stalilionis, of Orange, who died in 1962.     A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 11 at 9:30 am in the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main Street, Athol.
