GARDNER - Margaret Gloria Comeau, 91, died in the evening of August 3, 2016, in Gardner, where she had been a lifelong resident. Born in Gardner on August 18, 1924, she was just shy of her 92nd birthday. She was the widow of Ernest Comeau and the the third child of Alfred Victor and Hilda Mae Jennings Horton, who settled in Gardner after immigrating from Sheffield, England in their teens.
She was a graduate of the Gardner High School class of 1941. Mrs. Comeau worked as a secretary at Conant Ball, and then in the W.E.Fernald School office.
Known to her friends as Meg and a lively redhead, she had a great and enduring sense of humor. With her husband, she was a devoted owner of a long series of Himalayan cats. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Gardner where she followed a family tradition of active choir membership. With a beautiful voice she also sang with other area choral groups.
Mrs. Comeau leaves two nephews and five nieces: Kenneth Basler, Steven Basler, Beth Foster, and Carol Tate of Massachusetts, Margaret Richardson, of New Hampshire, Nancy Webb of New Jersey, and Ann Weiss of Washington.
Funeral services and burial are private.
