ORANGE - Margaret V. (Cromp) DeJackome, 76 of 156 Pleasant St., Orange, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester.
Margaret, who was fondly known as Toodles to many, was born in Athol in the "old" Sanders Street neighborhood, the daughter of the late Howard J. and the late Josephine (Kolodzey) Cromp. She graduated from Athol High School, married and moved to 156 Pleasant St., Orange where she lived for more than 50 years.
She started her work life as a teenager at Cass' Toy Factory and later retired from Slencil Pencil, having worked at many local businesses in between.
She was a member of the St. Mary's Woman's Club in Orange, the Emblem Club and participated in the Athol Veteran's Park Musical Revues.
Margaret and Wayne loved to travel in the U.S. and Canada, but she loved being home with her family most of all. Her hobbies included gardening, old movies, especially Horror movies, holidays and family gatherings.
She leaves her husband of 55 years, Wayne L. DeJackome; four daughters, Susan P. Swan and her husband Dennis T. of Worcester, Connie A. Zani and her husband Joseph F. of Phillipston, Cindy-Lou Rivers and her husband James L. of Orange, Lisa M. Aldrich and her husband Chris of Orange; eight grandchildren, Nerissa S. Lomartire and her husband Marc of Millbury, Shalyn M. Swan of Southbridge, Jordan D. Swan of Worcester; Michael W. Zani and his wife Rachael of Athol; Rachel L. Burke and her husband Daniel of Athol; Logan A. Rivers of Orange; Alexander C. Aldrich of Orange; Eric W. Aldrich of Orange; five great grandchildren, Christopher J. Lomartire; Macayla A. Lomartire; Isabella A. Zani; Julia N. Zani and Ava L. Burke.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Sally Ann DeJackome who died in 1958.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 10:00 am in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Orange.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2008, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home 1356 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Athol Memorial Hospital, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
