Marilyn Hazel (Green) Legrand, 87, died Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Heywood Hospital after an illness.
She leaves her husband of 67 years, Ronald E. Legrand; four children, Kris Legrand (Evie), Kimberly Legrand, Kurt Legrand (Dee), and Kay-Ellen Chicoine (Leo) all of Athol; eight grandchildren, Jenna, Eugene, Emma, Sydney, Kyle, Hillary, Kacie and Elizabeth; seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Brady, Tucker, Morgan, Autumn, Kaeden and Kole and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marilyn is predeceased by a daughter, Karen (Legrand) Roberts and her brother and sister, Walter Green and Beverly Clark.
She was born in Orange on September 19, 1933 a daughter of the late Arthur Howard and Mary Adella (Moore) Green. She graduated from Orange High School and grew up in North Orange. In her youth she worked for AT&T and for Starrett's as a telephone operator. She worked at Athol Memorial Hospital as a lab clerk and eventually became a phlebotomist until her retirement.
Marilyn was a member and very active at St. John's Church in Athol, she was involved with the thrift shop, the fairs and bake sales. She enjoyed quilting, bird watching, her gardens and flower beds. She was an avid reader. She was very political and well versed in history and current events. She loved to travel and had been to England, Russia, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Bermuda and all around the Caribbean. She loved her summer vacations in Maine with her family and trips down south and out west with her husband. She also was an amazing cook, and well known for her homemade breads and doughnuts. She particularly loved to do things for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very active in their lives.
Funeral services for Marilyn will be held on Sunday, August 15, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. in the Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
Burial will be private
