Marilyn Loraine Paju, 89,  died March 17, 2024 in Fitchburg, Mass.   She was born November 25, 1934 in Albany, New York to Frederick Anton (Fred) and Jean (Charlotte Eugenia Sedgwick) Gabriel, the youngest of three siblings and five half-siblings. She graduated from Albany High School in 1952, and married William (Bill) Paju in 1956.   In 1962 they bought a new home on Vincent Avenue in Colonie NY, where they raised their four children, and where Marilyn resided for 60 years.

Marilyn was trained as a secretary; her last job before retiring was as Secretary to the Director of Special Education for Albany-Schenectady-Schoharie BOCES, a role she loved. After Bill’s passing in 1992, Marilyn split her time between Colonie and North Port, Florida.

After her retirement, she enjoyed time with her family, outings and cards with friends, gardening, birds, and crafts.  She will be remembered by those who knew her for her warmth, discretion, and sense of humor. Children, especially, gravitated to her.

She is survived by her children, William (Bill) Paju III of Victor, Idaho; Terry Peck and her husband Barry of Brant Lake, NY; Susan Paju and her partner Heidi Kleiner of Athol, Mass.; Lynne Paju of Deerfield Mass.; and her granddaughter, Kristin Peck Nishikawa and her husband Hiro, of Tokyo, Japan. She is also survived by several dear nieces and nephews, who knew and loved her as Aunt Mame.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Garden Terrace Community at the Highlands in Fitchburg, Mass. for their loving and compassionate care during the last 18 months of Marilyn’s life. She thanked them daily with her amazing smile.

Internment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Colonie, NY.  Services will be private.
