ATHOL - Marion E. Lillie, 87, of 847 South Royalston, Road, Athol, died Monday, March 15, 2010 at home with her family by her side. Mrs. Lillie was born in Athol on January 31, 1923, the daughter of the late James E. and the late Nellie (Allen) Hastings. She was a lifelong resident of Athol and attended local schools. She worked as an Office Clerk for the L. S. Starrett Tool Company from 1963 until her retirement in 1982. In recent years Mrs. Lillie resided in Florida during the winter months. Several years ago she enjoyed dancing with her husband and traveled to many square-dancing conventions across the country, mostly throughout New England and Florida. She was a member of the Jumptown Twirlers and taught round-dancing lessons out of her home with her husband. She loved spending time with her family and with her three beloved cats, Goldie, Old Yeller and Tiny. She leaves one son, Robert E. Lillie, Jr.; two daughters, Betty J. Minty of Athol, Barbara A. Strom and her husband Robert H. Strom, Sr. all of Athol; one sister, Eleanor Kimball of Torrington, CT; fifteen grandchildren, Lorraine Rushford and her husband Chris of Orange, Sheila LaFortune of Athol, Donna McComsey and her husband Rick of South Carolina, Felicia Plastine and her husband Ricco of Florida, Angela Riel of Athol, Pamela Salmi and her husband Davin of Phillipston, Edmond Chartier and his wife Vicki of Phillipston, Brian Minty of South Carolina, Bruce Minty of Florida, Barry Minty and his wife Kerry of Florida, Benjamin Minty of Athol, Debra Devoe and her husband David of Maine, Deidre Minty of Athol, Daphne Rowan and her husband Jonathan of Texas, Dyana Allen of Athol; forty-three great grandchildren, fifteen great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lillie was predeceased by her husband of sixty-four years, Robert E. Lillie, Sr. on December 22, 2002; and by five brothers, Alton Hastings on November 27, 2009, Allen Hastings on March 14, 2009, Emory Hastings, Howard Hastings and Errol Hastings. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol. Calling hours will be held Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home.
