GARDNER - Marjorie P. (Richardson) Whiting, 85 of 80 Winter Street, Gardner, died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in South Ashburnham, on November 3, 1924, the daughter of the late John B. and the late Mabel J. (Stone) Richardson. Marjorie grew up in South Ashburnham and graduated from Fitchburg High School with the class of 1942. Mrs. Whiting was a LPN since 1953, she owned and operated the former Waller Nursing Home in Gardner for 12 years. She went on to work at the Leo P. LaChance Nursing Home, Eastwood Pines Nursing Home and Gardner Manor Nursing Home. Her last employment was with Dr. Christensen. Marjorie was a member of the Quota Club, she enjoyed crafts, crocheting, puzzles, cards and spending time with her family. She leaves one son, David E. Whiting and his wife Francine of Templeton; two daughters, Barbara A. Rich of Templeton, Patricia L. Cormier and her husband Stephen of Gardner, two sisters, Elsie Ayer of Templeton, Dorothy Allain of Gardner; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years Harold F. Whiting, Jr. who died in 2006 and by four sisters and by five brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner. Burial will be private at a later date. A calling hour will be held Monday, December 14, 2009 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in her memory to the Wachusett Manor Nursing Home - Activities Fund, 32 Hospital Hill Road, Gardner, MA 01440 or to a charity of one's choice.
