GARDNER - Martha Ann (Wood) Mount, 84 of 121 Edgell Street, Gardner, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side Saturday, February 13, 2021 at the Leominster Crossings Assisted Living Community in Leominster MA.
She was born in Gardner, on March 2, 1936, the daughter of the late Raymond F. Wood and the late Alma L. (Yorke) Wood.
Martha grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School. She received her Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Mount Wachusett Community College in 1989.
Martha worked at Simplex Time Recorder for over 30 years as a Mechanical Engineer and Documentations Manager, retiring in 2002. She loved working as a horse trainer and trail riding guide at Silver Ranch Stables in Jaffrey, NH during the mid to late 1950’s.
She was a long-time member of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA). She was a volunteer Co-Chief of Timing and Scoring for the New England Region Sports Car Club (NERSCCA) where she won many awards for her work.
She was a founding member of the Gardner Band Alumni Association and a member of the First Baptist Church in Gardner.
Through her younger years, Martha enjoyed horseback riding, downhill skiing, SCCA road rallies with her brother Phil and girlfriends. In 1959 she met her husband Micky at a SCCA Road Rally in upstate New York. She introduced and enjoyed these sports with her children as well.
Martha played Trombone with the Gardner Community Band for many years and played in the First Congregational Church Handbell Choir.
She leaves a daughter, Heather L. Mount of Gardner; one son, Joakim A. Mount and his wife Susan of Windham, NH; two brothers, Phil Wood and his wife Bunny of Gardner, Jim Wood and his wife Linda of Gardner; one sister, Nancy Popinchalk and her husband Paul of Worcester; two grandchildren, Aleece Mount of Windham, NH, Nigel Mount of Denver, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew "Micky" Mount and by a son, Erik R. Mount.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Mack Family Funeral Home, 105 Central St., Gardner. Burial will follow in Green Bower Cemetery. You are invited to view by webcast from the funeral homes website by selecting the media tab under her service notice.
Calling hours will be held Friday, February 19, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
