Martha A. Wood

Gardner- Martha A. (Ambroze) Wood, 83 of 74-76 Lynde Street, died Sunday December 2, 2007 at U Mass Medical Center, Worcester following an illness. She was born in Gardner on July 29, 1924, the daughter of Kazimier and Sophie (Plona) Ambroze. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart Elementary School in 1938, and Gardner High School in 1942. During World War II she was employed in Baltimore, Maryland at Glen L. Martin Aircraft Company and then at Fort Devens at the end of the war. Mrs. Wood then worked at the former Thayer Furniture Company until her marriage in 1947. She lived in the Bronx, NY with her husband, Robert for 40 years. Raising their children and volunteering in the Girl Scouts of America as a Brownie Leader and at the National Level. She was an Executive Administrator at Ciba-Geigy Pharmaceutical Company in the Plastic and Additive Division in Ardsley, NY; she served as Executive Assistant to the President. Upon her retirement in 1986 she returned to Gardner. Mrs. Wood was a member of the Gardner Golden Ages and a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Gardner. She greatly enjoyed her home and spending time with her family. She leaves her husband of 60 years, Robert G. Wood of Gardner; a daughter, Deborah M. (Wood) Lajoie and her, Roland Lajoie Jr of Hyde Park, Vermont; a son, Richard G. Wood of Amity Harbor, Long Island, NY; a granddaughter, Claire J. Lajoie of Steubenville, Ohio, a grandson, Daniel R. Lajoie of Burlington, Vermont, and a; three sisters, Edwina and her husband, Raymond Marchegiani of Gardner; Eleanor and her husband, Albert Chartier of Gardner, and Elizabeth Langevin of West Palm Beach, Florida; one uncle, four aunts, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph Ambroze, Leon Ambroze and Franklin Ambroze. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2007 from the John H. Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street followed by an 11 a.m. Mass Christian of Burial in Sacred Heart Church, 166 Cross Street, Gardner. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation N.D. Mission, Franciscan University Student Life Office, 1235 University Blvd., Steubenville, Ohio 43952. Her granddaughter, Claire is the co-leader of this mission. $(document).ready(function(){ });
