Leominster- Mary (Kalikotis) Angelopoulos, 100, of Leominster, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013 in the Keystone Center. Mary was born on September 6, 1912 in New York City and grew up in the Time Square area. She was the daughter of the late Sophocles and Christina (Setheris) Kalikotis.
Mary was a long time member of the Leominster United Methodist Church. She was known as a wonderful Greek cook. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, spending time with her family and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary worked for the former R.H. Whites Department Store, volunteered at the Leominster Hospital for many years where she was a member of the hospital guild.
Mary lived her life by the motto..."Everything in moderation".
Mary leaves behind one son; Leonard Angelopoulos of Florida, her son-in-law; Ronald Varney which she was very close to, two grandchildren; Laura Varney of Fitchburg and Debra Hargon of Gardner, two great-grandchildren; Katelyn and Aaron Hargon, a good friend; Bertha Landry, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, George Angelopoulos who passed in 1992, her daughter: Barbara Varney who passed in 1989, one sister and one brother.
The family would like to extend appreciation to the staff at the Keystone Center for their care and love for Mary during her stay at the center.
A memorial service will be held in the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St, Leominster on Wednesday March 27, 2013 at 6:00pm. There will be a calling hour preceding the service from 5:00pm-6:00pm. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary’s name to the: National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101A First Ave, Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451 or may be left at the funeral home.
