Winchendon Springs- Mary A. (Fanelli) Cass, 74, of 265 Monomonac Road West, and formerly of Athol, died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002 at Parkview Specialty Hospital, Springfield, MA. She leaves her husband of 51 years, Ira J. Cass; a son, Vincent M. Cass of Winchendon; three daughters, Deborah A. Gauvin of North Orange, MA, and twin daughters Linda L. Beugg of Los Angeles, California and Susan M. Taylor of Westminster; two brothers, Frank Farnello and Leo Fanelli, both of Athol; three sisters, Angelina Zuidema and Stella Murphy, both of Athol, and Agnes Breton of Fitzwilliam, NH; nine grandchildren: Tracy, Eric, and Christopher Gauvin; Stephanie and Ethan Taylor, Nicholas, Elizabeth and William Beugg; and Michael Cass; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was born in Athol, April 14, 1928, daughter of Michael and Stella (Masiello) Fanelli and lived there most of her life before coming to Winchendon Springs in 1987. She graduated from Athol High School with the class of 1946, and was the drum major for the school band. Sh then worked for five years as an operator for New England Telephone. She was an active member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Winchendon, and belonged to the Winchendon Springs Lake Association. She enjoyed cooking and giving to others, and especially enjoyed her children and grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Friday from the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home, 137 Main Street, Athol, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol
