It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our sweet mom. Mary T. (O’Brien) Haley, left this world, from the comfort of her home, and surrounded by the love of her family on November 16, 2023. Mary was a loving wife, devoted Mom, adoring grandmother and great grandmother to all of those lucky enough to belong to her.
Mary had a special way of welcoming everyone into her home and into her heart. She was a very loving person, radiating a warmth and kindness that resulted in her having a very special and unique relationship with each and every family member and friend.
She was born on December 8, 1928, to the late Francis J. and Corinne (Gardner) O’Brien. She grew up in Lowell, the third of the four O’Brien sisters. She graduated from Lowell High School and took a job with the Registry of Motor Vehicles in Boston. She retired from there, after meeting the love of her life Arthur F. Haley, while praying a novena at Church. They married in 1951 and together, they traveled while he served in the U. S. Navy, before settling in Chelmsford and then Westminster, MA where they raised their nine children.
Mary enjoyed summers at the family’s home on Seabrook Beach, pranking her family on April Fool’s day and cooking wonderful meals for family and friends. She was famous for her Sunday spaghetti dinners and for hosting cocktail parties each year at Christmas. She was very proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She’d tell anyone who’d listen all about them.
Mary will be forever loved and missed by her children, Linda (Gary) Bittner, Kim Haley, Arthur (Johanna Kozlowski) Haley, Betsy (David) Haley-Cormier, Tracy (Gary) Bosselait, Jeffrey (Heidi) Haley, Susan (Scott) Anderson, Patrick (Courtney) Haley and Michael (Regenia) Haley. She also leaves 22 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren who all adored her.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Arthur, and her sons in law, Thomas A. Scerra and Anthony R. Tucker.
Our family wishes to thank her very special caregivers, Karen Bushey, Nancy Cotter, Emily Towne and Joni Parent. They gave her so much love, friendship, laughs, sunshine, and above all else, the very best care at home. We are also very grateful for her nurse Samantha and the entire caring staff at Care Central VNA & Hospice.
