Mary J Maciacius

Amherst and formerly of Athol -Mary J. (Colton) Maciacius, 96, died Sunday, May 29, 2022 at her home with the hospice care team to support her and her family. She was the wife of the late Leon Anthony Maciacius; and sister of the late William R Colton of Naperville, Illinois. Mary leaves her daughter, Anne Shanks and her husband Alister Robertson Shanks of Northampton, MA; two granddaughters, Lee Ann Kingsley and her husband Mark Kingsley of Los Angeles, CA and Allison Cwalinski and her husband Nick Popowich of WIlliamsburg, MA; brother, Richard Colton and his wife Barbara Colton of Melbourne, FL and sister Margaret Coty of Amherst, now Mashpee, MA; plus many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Mary enjoyed being in the family's group of “The Marys”. Mary was born in Athol, MA on October 13, 1925 a daughter of the late William and Mary (Molly) (Glasheen) Colton. She was a graduate of Athol High School. She had several jobs in Athol including with dentist Dr. Talcott. She married; and husband Lee worked for Gulf Oil Corporation. Mary kept homes ready to sell at any moment's notice of transfer: they shared 14 homes by retirement. Mary made a 15th move to Amherst in 2008. Also, for most of her life, there was time spent on the Cape in Dennisport, MA. She was a member of the Catholic parishes in every community where she lived, bowling leagues and volunteered at a RI hospital. Mary enjoyed her extended family and friendships; knitting, reading and traveling. She liked to reminisce, and could tell many stories of her life well lived. Funeral services will be private.
