ATHOL - Matthew R. Perkins, 41, of 38 Farnsworth Ave., Athol, died unexpectedly Thursday, January 22, 2009 at home. He was born in Springfield on September 20, 1967, the son of the late Richard C. Perkins and JoAnne M. (Buckley) Buzzell. Mr. Perkins grew up in Orange and attended local schools. He worked at the Colonial Bed and Breakfast in Gardner as an Event Coordinator for over ten years. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards, and discovering things using his metal detector. He was considered a very loving Uncle and a compassionate person who enjoyed helping others. He will be greatly missed. He leaves his mother, JoAnne M. (Buckley) Buzzell of Athol; two sisters Marcee Balfour and her husband Taylor of Athol, Melanie Burnham and her boyfriend John Dahood of Salisbury; two brothers, Ryan Perkins of Gardner, Sean Perkins of Virginia; three nieces, Alisha Leonard of Vermont, Correl Balfour of Athol, Joslynn Burnham of Orange; two nephews, Taylor Balfour of Athol, David Burnham of Orange; several great nieces and great nephews; and his dear friend, Deb Fournier of Hubbardston. He was predeceased by his father, Richard C. Perkins, who died in 2006, and by his brother, Michael Perkins, who died in 1992. Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours.
