ORANGE - Maurice C. Heath, 88, of 41 Ball Street, Orange, died Friday, January 1, 2010 in the Applewood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Winchester, NH.
He was born in Springfield, NH on November 26, 1921, the son of the late Grover and the late Flora (Hutt) Heath.
Mr. Heath was a longtime resident of both Phillipston and Templeton. He was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Independence Aircraft Carrier as Gunner's Mate Third Class. While in the military, Mr. Heath earned the World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal (2 stars), Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal (9 stars), and the Good Conduct Medal.
He worked at the L.S. Starrett Tool Company as a machinist for over forty years. He was Past Master of the Athol and Orange chapters of the Masons. Mr. Heath was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post in Orange, and a past member of Singing Men of Athol. He enjoyed golfing, going to the beach and ocean, playing cribbage, and his pet cats.
He leaves two daughters, Marcy Robitaille and her husband Robert of Warwick, Sherry Page and her husband David of Swanzey, NH, five grandchildren, Jamie Rivas and her husband Joe of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Liddell and her husband Philip of Tewksbury, Jason Page of Alamogordo, NM, Sean Goode of Warwick, Makenzie Goode of Warwick; two great grandchildren, Alexis Liddell and Kyle Liddell, both of Tewksbury; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lillian MacDonald, in 1995; also by three brothers, Edward Heath, Alfred Heath, Harold Heath; and by his sister, Jessie Heath.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Mission Covenant Church, 53 Pleasant St., Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery, Athol.
There are no calling hours.
