May L. Britt Athol – May L. Britt, 78, of 65 Chester Street, died Friday, August 19, 2011 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Worcester.      May was born in Athol, Massachusetts, October 12, 1932, the daughter of Nancy L. (Towne) Britt.  She has lived in Athol all of her life, graduating from Athol High School in 1951.      May worked for Temple Oil Company from 1972 until her retirement in 1990.  She had previously worked at the former Fishman’s and Godin’s Department Stores.  She was a member of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years and sang in the church choir for over 30 years.  She enjoyed doing knitting and all types of needle work.        She leaves a sister, Barbara R. Johnson and her husband Richard of Orange and a sister-in-law, Francine Britt of Leominster.  She was predeceased by her brother Douglas Britt in 2000.        Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with Adam Randazzo, pastor of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery and there will be a calling hour until 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.  In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made in May’s name to the Living Memorial Fund of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, 40 Island Street, Athol, MA 01331 or the Athol Congregational Church, Book of Memory, 1225 Chestnut Street, Athol, MA 01331.  For further information or to share a memory with the family go to:  www.higginsoconnorfuneralhome.com. $(document).ready(function(){ });
