ORANGE - May E. Deyo, age 97, of Orange died peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare. May was born on August 20, 1919 in Worcester. She was the daughter of the late William and Judith (Anderson) Scollen. She grew up in West Boylston graduating from Major Victor High School in 1938. She had resided in Orange since 1938 except for a brief time in New Salem, MA.
May was a homemaker before working at the Pant Shop and L.S. Starrett Co. where she was a secretary for 15 years.
She was a very active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic Minister to shut-ins and also assisted many priests preparing the altar for services. She was forever helping wherever there was a need. Sometimes it was at Annie's or Higgins O'Connor Funeral Home but mostly at any church functions related to St. Mary's Church. Before her husband's death, she and her husband could be found playing cards on a Friday night with friends. Together they were members of several bowling leagues. May was an accomplished seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed cross stitching but had to give it up due to her failing eyesight.
Survivors include one sister, Norma Zeitler of St. Augustine, Fl. Her daughter-in-law, Jerilynn Deyo of Orange. Four grandchildren; Timothy Deyo and wife Lisa and their children, Stephen Deyo and Sarah Deyo of Attleboro; Theresa Deyo Balotin and husband Eric and their children, Allie Balotin, Andrew Balotin and Sydney Balotin of Jamesville, NY; Tracey Deyo and Thomas Deyo both of Orange. Several close nieces and nephew; Judy Andrews Soucy, Mary Ann Andrews Coons, Judy Zeitler Rhine, Teresa Zeitler Jones and John Zeitler.
May was predeceased by her husband, Herbert G. Deyo, her sons, Raymond W. Deyo and C. Steven Deyo and a sister, Ruth Andrews.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 10:00 at St. Mary's Church, 19 Congress Street, Orange. Burial will follow in South Cemetery.
