RUTLAND - May M. (LePoer) MacDonnell, 79, of 164 Maple Ave., Rutland, and formerly of Petersham, died Wednesday, January 14, 2009 in the UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus, Worcester.
She was born in Petersham on January 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Bernard and Myrtle (Barnes) LePoer.
Mrs. MacDonnell grew up in Petersham and graduated from Petersham High School. She attended the Worcester Hahnemann Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1950. She was a nurse for the Petersham Center School, area hospitals, the VA Hospital in Rutland as well as a private duty nurse. She was later employed by Rutland Heights Hospital as a Nurse, retiring in 1994 after 28 years. Mrs. MacDonnell was a member of the First Congregational Parish, Unitarian in Petersham for fifty years. She enjoyed cooking, reading, and traveling. She loved spending time with her family.
She leaves two sons, Julian E. MacDonnell, Jr. and his wife Jane of Uxbridge, Kevin R. MacDonnell of Rutland; two brothers, Bernard LePoer and his wife Annie of Petersham, John LePoer and his wife Ann of Petersham; six grandchildren, Jennifer MacDonnell, Lucas MacDonnell, Christina MacDonnell, Alexa MacDonnell, Katherine MacDonnell, Julian E. MacDonnell III; three great grandchildren; brother-in-law: Ernest F. MacDonnell of Providence RI; a daughter-in-law: Gerilyn MacDonnell of Rutland and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Julian E. MacDonnell Sr., who died in 1983, by her son, Gary Scott MacDonnell, by three sisters, Marion Russell, Grace Barnes, Myrtle King; and by three brothers, Charles Frederick Coolidge, Roger E. Coolidge, and Earle B. Coolidge.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Parish, Unitarian, On The Common, Petersham. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Cemetery, Paxton at a later date.
Calling hours will be held Friday, January 16 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the First Congregational Parish, Unitarian, On the Common, Petersham, MA 01366.
