DORCHESTER - Mayme J. Luman, 95 of 151 Hallet St, Dorchester, and formerly of Athol, died Sunday, October 28, 2007 in the Carney Hospital, Dorchester, MA.
She was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, on May 2, 1912, the daughter of the late David and the late Winifred (MacDonald) MacDonald.
She lived in Athol for 52 years, moving to Shrewsbury in 1993, then to Dorchester.
She was a teacher for 23 years employed by the Athol School District and taught at Sanders St. School and Lyman Ward School, where she was principal for 10 years. She also taught grades K-3 at the Gale Brooks School in North Orange. She retired in 1976.
She was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church and a Eucharisitc Minister.
She was a member of the Catholic Women's League, Ladies of St. Anne, Catholic Friends, and Catholic Visitors.
She leaves one daughter: Sharlene Luman of Dorchester; Nephews: James MacDonald of Dorchester, Ivan MacDonald of Hyde Park, Eddie MacDonald of Canton, Paul MacDonald of Medfield,Winnie MacDonald of Athol, Vern MacDonald of Webster, David MacDonald of Middleboro, Richard MacDonald of Texas, David MacDonald of Prince Edward Island; Nieces: Winifred Conway of Halifax, Mary Cafarelli of Riverview, Fa., Karen Boeri of Milton and Ann Foley of Cornwall, Prince Edward Island.
She was predeceased by her husband Abraham; her sisters: Katherine and Helen MacDonald and her brothers James, George and John MacDonald.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 3rd at 11 a.m. in the Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3rd in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home.
