Fitchburg- Michael Dupont, 68, passed away with his family by his side, after an illness on Saturday, January 12th at Leominster hospital.
He was born in Leominster, son of the late Francis J. and Greta (Arsenault) Dupont.
Michael attended Leominster High school. He was a graduate of Miami Dade College with a degree in architecture and design. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a carpenter by trade for more than forty years.
He was a rock and gemstone collector, loved animals, his dogs, hiking, the beach, and being in nature at the family home in Maine. Michael enjoyed being with his family. He was also an ardent fan of all the New England sports teams, and played men’s league hockey for many years.
Michael leaves his wife, Barbara (Bashaw), who he was married forty years, a son, Eric and his wife, Diana of Leominster, and one daughter, Michelle, of Boston. He also leaves a step son, Jason of Westminster.
Michael is also survived by four brothers, Stephen and his wife Aida of Georgia, David and his wife Maureen of Boston, Kenneth of Fitchburg, and Francis and his wife Pamela of Sterling.
He leaves his grandchildren, Anthony and Jacob, along with several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 21, from 10-12pm at the Simard Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster. A service will follow at 12:00pm in the funeral home. Burial will be private.
