Michael S. Kelley
Greenfield – Michael S. “Ace†Kelley, 48, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home following a long illness.
Michael was born in Athol, MA on April 18, 1966, the son of William R. and Shirley J. (Armitage) Kelley. He grew up in Athol, graduating from Athol High School in 1984 and from Fitchburg State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in communications and media studies. While at Fitchburg State he was a member of Delta Phi Pi and pledged in the fall of 1987. He later moved to Deerfield where he lived for many years and for the past ten years has resided in Greenfield.
Michael worked for the Greenfield Recorder and the Hampshire Gazette as a sports reporter for many years and also for Yankee Candle for several years. Michael also had his own web site, aceshsfolklore.com which he maintained with the latest sports events. Michael’s life revolved totally around sports and he also was an avid Miami Dolphins fan. He also enjoyed the Dukes of Hazard and had recently made a trip to Nashville, TN. Michael always had a great sense of humor and most especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He leaves his mother, Shirley J. Kelley, his sisters, Cathy White, Diane Billingham and her husband Jim and Eileen Cote, all of Athol; his nieces and nephews, Heather Plotkin, Jason and Nicholas Kimball, Elizabeth Bouchard, Geoffrey and Amanda Billingham, Meghan and Sarah Cote; he also leaves several grand nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with Deacon John Leary officiating. There are no calling hours and a family burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in the spring.
