LEOMINSTER - Michael P. McNamara, 53 of 416 Pleasant St., Leominster, died Monday, March 2, 2009 in the Golden Living Center, Fitchburg. He was born in Lowell, on June 3, 1955, the son of the late Thomas F. and the late Marion (Finn) McNamara, Sr. Michael served in the United States Army he was honorably discharged in 1978. Michael grew up in Chelmsford and was educated in Chelmsford. He was a resident of Leominster for over ten years. He was a General Contractor in the Leominster area and he owned his own plowing business. He was the Dog Officer in Lowell for several years. Michael was an active member and volunteer at the Franco American Club in Leominster, he was Senior Vice President of the club and was Past Junior Vice President. He enjoyed horseback riding. He leaves one sister, Marie Santos of Dracut; four brothers, Thomas McNamara of Billerica, Lawrence McNamara of Newport, NH, William J. McNamara, Sr. of South Yarmouth, MA, Robert Hays of Middleboro, MA and close friends, Frank and Janice Murphy of Leominster. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 9:30 am in the Simard Funeral Home 14 Walker St., Leominster. Burial will follow in Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Franco American Club 300 Water Street, Leominster, MA 01453.
