Muriel E. Morse
Athol – Muriel E. “ Fifi†(Soucie) Morse, 81, of 157 Spring Street, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at Quabbin Valley Healthcare, surrounded by her family.
Muriel was born June 6, 1930 in Athol, Massachusetts, the daughter of Erwin C. and Eva M. (Guignard) Soucie. She has lived in Athol all of her life. She worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for nine years, previously working at McElwain Shoe Shop, the Athol Comb Shop, all types of alterations, sewing and dressmaking and also did cake decorating. Muriel enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, playing softball and bowling, but most especially enjoiyed spending time with her family.
Her husband of 57 years, Richard C. Morse died in 2009. She leaves a daughter; Debra Phelps and her husband Scott; a son, Steven Morse and a grandson, Adam Phelps, all of Athol; a brother, David Soucie and his wife Esther of Athol; two step-grandchildren, David and Amy and their families; three sister-in-laws, Betty Soucie of Athol, Yvonne Soucie and Betty Stone, both of Hubbardston, Elsie Morse of Templeton and Margaret Jandris of Gardner and many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Bradley O. Morse, three brothers, Leon, James and Erwin Soucie and two sisters, Marjorie LeBlanc and Corrine Breault.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 5, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor, pastor of the Athol Congregational Church officiating. There will be a calling hour from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. A private graveside will be at the Massachusetts Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Muriel’s name be made to: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
