MIDDLEFIELD/GARDNER - Nancy (Nolan) Burnham, 81, of 39 West Hill Rd., Middlefield, and formerly of Gardner, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, in the Baldwinville Nursing Home.
She was born in Gardner, on December 22, 1926, daughter of the late John J. Nolan and Lucy E. (Rumery) (Nolan) Johnson.
Nancy graduated from Gardner High School in 1944 and from North Adams State College as Magna Cum Laude in 1986. Nancy began her writing career in New York City at the former S.S.C.N.B. Advertising Firm where she was Head Copywriter. She settled in Berkshire County where she continued to teach and write. She was instrumental in the funding and preservation of the Rail Road Stone Arches of Massachusetts. Nancy served as an Assessor and head of the Cemetery Commission in Middlefield for several years.
She leaves her sister, Patricia N. Lebeaux of Sandwich; four nephews, John W. Sokolowski, Kurt S. Sokolowski, Michael Nolan, and Daniel Nolan; four nieces, Kristina M. Geis, Sharon F. Leger, Rosemary Southwick, and Jacqueline Nolan; also twelve great nieces and nephews, and fourteen great great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, John J. Nolan Jr., on September 10, 1994.
Burial services will be private.
