GARDNER – Nancy (McCarthy) O'Donnell, age 91, of Gardner died Monday, January 21, 2013 at home. Mrs. O'Donnell was born June 10, 1921 in Winchendon; she is the daughter of the late John B. and the late Nettie B. (Martin) McCarthy.  She married Edward A. O'Donnell on April 11, 1942. Nancy grew up in Winchendon and graduated from Murdock High School in 1939.  She graduated from the Farmer School of Cooking in Boston in 1940. She worked as the Assistant Manager for the former Gardner Manor Nursing Home.  She volunteered for several years at Wachusett Manor Nursing Home.  Nancy was a member of the Gardner Municipal Golf Course for many years.  She was a member of the Bridge Club and the Ball & Chain Club.  She and her husband spent many years camping in Flagg’s Trailer Camp in York Beach, Maine.  She was a devoted friend who loved to cook and entertain in her home.  She was fortunate to be surrounded by caring neighbors. She leaves a granddaughter, Kelly A. Hartzog and her husband Neil T. Hartzog of West Hartford, CT; a sister in-law Betty Goguen of Gardner; two great grandchildren, Devin Hartzog, Julia Hartzog and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward A. O'Donnell; by her son, Steven E. O'Donnell; and by three sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013, at 12 p.m. in the Mack Funeral Home 91 Vernon St., Gardner.   Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Gardner. A calling hour will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013, from 11 to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests to please consider a donation in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
