Nancy S. Bolton
Royalston – Nancy (Shaw) Bolton, 85, of Bolton Road, died Wednesday, September 07, 2011 at the Quabbin Valley Healthcare.
Nancy was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, February 21, 1926 the daughter of Frederick D. and Lucille (Kimball) Shaw. She grew up in Weston, MA, graduating from Weston High School in 1944 and from Boston University in 1948 with a degree in English. She later moved to West Medway where she lived for 17 years and since 1973 has resided in Royalston.
Nancy was very active in her community, was a member of the First Congregational Church of Royalston where she sang in the church choir, was a soloist and served as a deaconess. She was a member of the Ladies Benevolent Society from 1973 to the present where she also served as chair of the scholarship committee, worked on the Royalston polls for many years, member of the Royalston Historical Society, the Salvation Army Advisory Board also serving as recording secretary. She served on the Athol-Royalston Regional School Committee from 1986 to 1999, the Athol Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, the Athol Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, serving as president from 1982 to 1984, the Athol Women’s Club, and served as a volunteer for the Athol Area United Way for many years. She was also a member of Pie-Beta-Phi Fraternity while at Boston University. Nancy loved serving her community, spending summer vacations as a child in Harpswell, Maine. As an adult she enjoyed spending time in Cape Elizabeth, Maine with her sister and family. Nancy loved having a good time, but most especially enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family.
She leaves a son, Llewellyn S. Bolton, IV of Royalston; a daughter, Holly H. Burnett and her husband, Jason of Erving; three grandsons, Daniel Lee Bolton of Athol, whom she helped raise, Douglas J. Dupell, Jr. and his wife Trista of Erving and Phillip Dupell and his wife Amber of Orange. She also leaves a sister, Betsy Hewes and her husband Richard of Cape Elizabeth, ME; two nephews, three nieces and many grand nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Erving Center Cemetery with Pastor Adam Randazzo of the Starrett Memorial United Church, officiating. There are no calling hours and in lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to: the Salvation Army-Athol Corps, 107 Ridge Ave., Athol or the Athol Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, 2033 Main Street, Athol, MA 01331.
