Nancy I. Torchia
Athol – Nancy I. (Soucie) Torchia, 71, died Thursday, August 22, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Gardner, Massachusetts, May 31, 1942, the daughter of Gordon and Myrtie (Smith) Soucie. She grew up and has lived in Athol all of her life, graduating from Athol High School in 1960.
Nancy worked at the L.S. Starrett Company for 17 years until her retirement. She had previously worked at Leggett’s Drug Store, Fishman’s Department Store and also sold Avon products and home décor. She was a member of Our Lady Immaculate Church, enjoyed playing cards, walking, knitting and fishing. She also enjoyed traveling and trips to Atlantic City with her husband.
Her husband of 45 years, Alessandro G. Torchia died January 15, 2008. She leaves two daughters, Maria Duplessis and her husband Scott and Cynthia Torchia and John McClenathan all of Athol; eight grandchildren, Rocco, Joshua, Alessandro, Nicole, Angelina and Brandon Russello and Kyler and Cara Duplessis; five great grandchildren, Jaurell, Theresa, Jordon, Khloe and Christopher, Jr. and expecting the sixth, Robert . She also leaves a brother, William Soucie and his wife Betty and a sister, Janice Whittier, both of Athol and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Higgins-O’Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main Street, Athol with the Rev. Fr. Gregory Zielinski of Our Lady Immaculate Church officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery and there will be a calling hour from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Nancy’s name to Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol, MA 01331.
