ATHOL- Nellie L. Stone, 97, of Athol, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, at Heywood Hospital after a short illness. She was the wife of the late Peter P. Stone for 59 years.
Born on March 12, 1917, to the late Joseph and Anna (Ganis) Chastney, she graduated from Athol High School. She was a homemaker and as soon as her children were grown she worked for WT Grant and as school bus driver. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church and an avid cribbage player, regularly playing in a weekly cribbage club. She also enjoyed fishing, reading, watching Boston sports, and spending time with her family.
Mrs. Stone was predeceased by her four brothers, Frank, Benedict, Felix and John.
She leaves two sons, Richard D., and his wife, Patricia Stone of Framingham; Edward L., and his wife, Barbara Stone of Meriden, CT; two daughters, Margaret M. and her husband, Peter Personeni of West Yarmouth; and Elizabeth A., and her husband Robert Teatom of Darien, CT. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Dr. Richard D. Stone, Catherine P. Stone, Esq., Brenda C. Stone, Michael E. Stone, Nicholas C. Personeni, James M. Personeni, Allyson K. Teatom, Matthew K. Teatom, and Jessica K. Teatom; three great-grandchildren, Douglas P. Stone, Alana J. Stone, and Gemma R. Stone; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Thursday, August 14, 2014, at 11:00AM at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 101 Main St, Athol. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will precede the funeral Thursday, August 14, from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange.
