GARDNER - Nettie E. (Cole) Jakola, 79 of 277 Pine Street, Gardner formerly of Athol, died Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at home.
She was born in Newark, Vermont, on June 6, 1936, the daughter of the late Charles and the late Nettie (Domina) Cole.
Nettie was raised and educated in Vermont. She attended the Lydon Institute in NH before moving to Claremont, NH where she was manager of the Union Block 27 Apartments. She then moved to Leominster where she was the manager of a local Dunkin' Donuts. Mrs. Jakola then moved to Georgia and resided in Venice, Florida briefly before coming to Athol many years ago. She worked for M. Kamenstein's in Winchendon and the former Thom McCann Shoe Shop as an assembler. Nettie enjoyed going to the Athol Senior Center to play bingo and also crocheted many afghans and completed puzzles in her spare time.
She leaves four daughters, Cecile Bresette of Maryville, TN, Suzanne Patterson of Orange, Donna Campbell of Athol, Dianne Blake of Gardner; three sons, Philip Bedor of NC, Kevin McGivern of Barre, Butch McGivern of Athol; three sisters, Charlotte Griffin of Virginia Beach, VA, Shirley Rivers of Easthaven, VT, Barbara Cole of Lyndonville, VT; three brothers, Jesse Cole of Petersham, Charles Cole, Jr. of Lunenburg, VT, Clarence "Clayte" Cole of NC; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Ronald A. Jakola who died August 8 2009, by her son, Mark McGivern and by her sister, Rose Wheeler.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 11:00 am in the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange. Burial will follow in Silver Lake Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Saturday from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to the Athol Senior Center 82 Freedom St., Athol, MA 01331.
Following the service the family will have a reception at the Athol American Legion Exchange St., Athol.
