LAUDERHILL, FL: Norma J. (Calvi) Mattala, 93, formerly of 244 Chestnut Street, Athol, died Friday, August 15, 2008 at her home in Lauderhill, Florida with her devoted sons by her side.
She was born in Athol on November 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Felix and the late Orelia (Vaccarazza) Calvi. She lived in Athol most of her life and later resided in Hollywood, Florida and Lauderhill, Florida.
Mrs. Mattala was employed at the former Union Twist Drill Company for over 40 years. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and traveling. She also loved to cook for her family and many friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She leaves two sons; Charles Schwab of Lauderhill, Florida and Donald Schwab and his wife Patricia of Hartford, Ct; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas Mattala; and by five sisters; Lena Natale, Mary Robichaud, Edith Porter, Flora Costanza, Mamie Marsico; and two brothers, Harry Calvi and Joseph Calvi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 23 at 10:00 a.m. in the Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School Street, Athol MA. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Friday, August 22, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the J. Edward Murphy Funeral Home.
