Norman J. A. Nault

ATHOL - Norman J.A. Nault, 95 of 39 Queen St., Worcester, formerly of Athol, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 in the St. Mary's Healthcare Center, Worcester. He was born in Berlin, NH, on January 13, 1921, the son of the late Nelson and the late Valerie (Frechette) Nault. Norman lived in Berlin, NH until the age of 5, moving to Fort Meyers, FL for 3 years. He moved to Athol at the age of 8 where he has resided since. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, from 1943 to 1946, receiving a Purple Heart for injuries sustained in action in Okinawa, Japan in 1945. Norman worked for the L. S. Starrett Company for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He was a communicant of Our Lady Immaculate Church in Athol, where he was very active. He served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years, as well as serving as an Altar Server for funeral Masses. He was a member of the Aero Club, Pequoig Bowmen's Club and the Knights of Columbus, Athol Council #1182. Norman was also the recipient of the Veteran of the Year award given out at the Our Lady Immaculate Veteran’s Dinner. He enjoyed singing, woodworking, hunting and fishing. A favorite pastime of Normans’ was going for breakfast rides with his wife Eleanor to New Hampshire followed by a long road trip to wherever the road took them. He leaves two sons: Paul Nault and his wife Sherry of Athol, Norman A Nault and his wife Susan of Barre; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister: Margaret Nault of Athol. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years: Eleanor R. Nault in 2000, his son: Francis A. Nault in 1994, his daughter: Roberta A. Nault in 2016; two brothers: Leo Nault, Paul Nault; three sisters: Beatrice Maroni, Mina Britt, Grace Nault. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00 am in the Our Lady Immaculate Church, 192 School St., Athol. Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Rd., Orange. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Our Lady Immaculate Church Building Fund, 192 School St., Athol, MA 01331 or to a charity of One’s Choice.
