ATHOL - Norman Earl Parmenter, 82 of 1058 New Sherborn Road, Athol, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 in the Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Athol.
He was born in Orange, on December 3, 1929, the son of the late Albert G. and the late Mildred (Sibley) Parmenter.
Norman graduated from Orange High School with the class of 1948. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served two years in Germany.
Mr. Parmenter was a call firefighter in Orange for over 20 years. He worked at the Orange Water Department for 20 years and then went to work for the L.S. Starrett Company for 26 years.
Norman enjoyed hunting, archery and was a New York Yankees fan.
He leaves his wife of 59 years, June B. (Newton) Parmenter; two brothers, Albert Parmenter of Belchertown, Frank Parmenter of Orange; three sisters, Elaine Adams of Athol, Barbara Maher of Sparta, NJ, Anne Wilson of Newington, CT; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Adams who died in 2007.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 10:00 am in South Cemetery, Orange, Orange.
There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to Quabbin Valley Healthcare, Dana Unit, 821 Daniel Shays Highway, Athol, MA 01331.
