MANCHESTER, NH - Onil "Pat" A. Tourigny, 89, died April 12, 2007, at Villa Crest Nursing & Retirement Center after a period of declining health.
He was born August 1, 1917, in Leominster, MA, the son of Joseph A. Tourigny and Marie R. Tourigny. His beloved wife of 51 years, Lena, and an infant daughter, Lisa, predeceased him.
After serving in the Army during World War II, he worked as a carpenter. For many years he was employed as a superintendent for Madonia Brothers Construction, overseeing various projects including supermarkets, schools, and senior housing apartment buildings. After retirement from construction, he worked as a school bus driver in Sterling, MA, where his love of children was most evident. He and his wife, Lena, lived most of their lives in Leominster, MA, later moving to Sterling, MA, Port Richey, FL, and Wells, ME, where Lena died in 1993. During the past four years he lived in Bedford and Manchester, NH.
He is survived by his three daughters, Patricia A. Tourigny of Meredith, NH, Joyce M. Lucier and her husband, Neil, of Dedham, ME, and Linda T. Dutile and her husband, David, of Auburn, NH; six grandchildren, J. John Cocci, Johanna Scharlat and her husband, Joel, Daniel and Thomas Lucier, and Stefanie and Melissa Dutile; one great-grandchild, Katherine Scharlat; three sisters, Eva Gillberg of Leominster, MA, Fern Bergeron of Shirley, MA, and Pauline LaPointe of Port Hueneme, CA; two brothers, Armand and Laurent Tourigny, both of Leominster, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Irene Hatfield, and four brothers, Raymond and Paul Tourigny, and Ernest and Eugene Bilodeau.
Services: Calling hours are on Wednesday, April 18 from 9:00 to 10:45 a.m. at M. A. Simard & Son Funeral Home, 14 Walker St., Leominster, MA, followed by a Mass of Celebration at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia's Church 180 Mechanic St., Leominster. Burial will follow at St. Cecilia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pat's name to Home Health and Hospice Services, 1E Commons Dr., Unit 31, Londonderry, NH 03053.
