GARDNER - Oscar S. Maki, Jr., 86 of Gardner formerly of Westminster, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 in the Hillcrest Nursing Home, Fitchburg. He was born in Jaffrey, NH, on September 22, 1921, the son of the late Oscar S. and the late Elma (Hyrk) Maki. Mr. Maki grew up in Fitchburg and graduated from Fitchburg High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a carpenter working as a member of the Carpenter's Union in Worcester for many years. Oscar resided in Westminster for many years and was a resident of Gadner for the past three years. He was a long time member of Westminster Coulntry Club and more recently he played golf at Gardner Municipal. He was a member of the Masons. He leaves one daughter, Karen Gagon and her husband Jean Guy of Leominster;one sister, Esther Sormunen of Westminster; two granddaughters, Christine Gilbert and her husband Andrew of Jamaica Plain and Jessica Snook and her husband Ted of Seattle, WA. Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Simard Funeral Home14 Walker Street, Leominster. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, Winchendon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to American Cancer Society's, New England Division Office, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
