ATHOL, MA — Patricia A. Shatos, passed away on December 24, 2023 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family.
A beacon of unwavering love and compassion, Patricia’s life was a testament to the words of Mother Teresa, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” Patricia’s love for her family, friends, her faith, and her community shone brightly throughout her life, and continues to inspire those who knew her.
She cherished her role as a devoted mother and best friend to her daughters, Shelley and Shannon, and as a loving member of her extended family. Patricia created a home, where love reigned and memories were made. Her love for Bingo with close friends, vacationing with family at Hampton Beach and Ogunquit, Maine, held a special place in her heart, as did her affection for her many pet cats.
Patricia graduated from Athol High School and attended UMass, Amherst. She was a dedicated homemaker for many years while raising her family. When her children were grown, her gracious personality, her radiant smile and genuine interest in others served her well in later roles as hostess at the Homestead Restaurant and at the Athol Public Library. She was an active member of St. Francis Parish and a member of the Holy Family Guild.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Shelley Shatos (Joseph Reidy), and Shannon Shatos-Swift (William J. Swift), and her cousins Helen Homan (Harvey Berig), John Homan(Kathy Homan). She is preceded in death by her dear parents, George and Anne Wengris, and her aunts and uncles, Bernice and Arthur King and Frances and Henry Homan.
Patricia’s life will be celebrated with a funeral mass at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Athol, Massachusetts on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 10:00 AM.
The burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery in Athol.
A calling hour will be held at Fiske-Murphy & Mack Funeral Home, 110 New Athol Road, Orange, MA 01364 on Saturday before the funeral from 8:30 - 9:30 AM.
