Paul K. Algier, 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019 after a two year stay at The Overlook Healthcare Facility in Charlton.
Paul is predeceased by his loving wife of 37 years, Dorothy V. (Hermann) Algier (d.1987).
Born in Leominster, MA on April 21, 1923, Paul was the son of Archibald and Priscilla (Grenier) Algier. He graduated from Leominster High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in
1943. He was a decorated WWII Veteran of the 36th Infantry Division of the Texas Ranger Engineers. Upon his return from overseas he attended and graduated from Utah State University.
Paul and Dorothy raised their family in Gardner, MA. Paul leaves his son, David Algier (Carol) of Charlton, his three daughters, Paulette (Dignard) McLachlan (Roy) of Leominster, Mary Algier of NH, and Maureen Booker (Brent) of Charlton. He also leaves four grandchildren Jason Dignard, Kenneth Dignard (Mary Kate), Bryan Booker (Dana), and Stacy (Booker) Cicio (Josh) and one great grandchild, Wyatt Dignard.
Paul will be missed by many relatives throughout the U.S.
Paul worked for the New England Telephone Company for over 40 years. He was a life long member of the Sacred Heart Church in Gardner. Paul was also a member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus.
Paul enjoyed cross country road trips, traveled to Hawaii, Alaska and most U.S. States. Paul was an avid golfer. He also followed New England sports teams, enjoyed listening and dancing to big band music, bird watching and being outdoors. Paul was a people person and had quite the dry sense of humor... always looking for that smile. He was a kind and gentle man and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
We want to extend our deepest appreciation to the 3rd floor staff at The Overlook and Hospice for their dedication in caring for our father.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Spirit Church, 50 Lovewell St., S. Gardner at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 9th. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with Military Honors.
There will be no calling hours.
The Mack Family Funeral Homes, Lamoureux, Smith & Poliks Chapel, 105 Central St., Gardner is assisting the family with arrangements.
