GARDNER - Paul W. Horrigan, 79 of 272 Pearl Street, Gardner, formerly of 31 Evans Circle, East Templeton, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at home.
He was born in Gardner, on September 25, 1931, the son of the late William A. and the late Ella A. (Griffin) Horrigan.
He grew up in Gardner and graduated from Gardner High School with the Class of 1949.
Mr. Horrigan was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1949 to 1952.
He received an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Wachusett Community College in 1974. He graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
He was a Police Officer in Gardner for 41 years retiring in 1994 as a Lieutenant. He was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle International Law Enforcement. He was a communicant of Holy Cross Church; a member and Past Commander of American Legion Post #129 in Gardner; he was active on the honor guard at the American Legion as well. He was a member of the 40 & 8 American Legion. He was a member of the Gardner VFW Post #905. Paul was a lifetime member of the Gardner Council #396 Knights of Columbus; a member of the Otter River Sportsman's Club; a life member of the NRA.
Paul was a member of the National Ski Patrol and was active on the Ski Patrol at Mount Wachusett Ski Area for many years.
He leaves three daughters, Lisa A. Jacks and her husband Warren Jacks, Jr. of Agawam, MA, Rebecca Sealove of Hilo, Hawaii, Joanna L. Horrigan of East Templeton; one son, Lee E. Horrigan of Gardner; one sister, Mary A. Roth of Gardner; two brothers, William J. Horrigan of South Dennis, MA, Brian F. Horrigan of Brattleboro, VT; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy E. (Sweeney) Horrigan who died January 7, 2003.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 26 Lake Ave., East Templeton. Burial will be at a later date in the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery in Winchendon.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2011from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mack Funeral Home, 91 Vernon Street, Gardner.
