TEMPLETON – Paul A. Laine, of 376 South Road, Templeton, MA died Monday, July 27, 2015 after a short illness at Heywood Memorial Hospital. Paul was born May 10, 1935 in Gardner, Massachusetts, the son of Armas and Heiri (Walinen) Laine.
He grew up in Phillipston, MA on Stonebridge Road and later moved to Templeton after graduating from Athol High School in 1952. Paul worked at UTD in Athol for a brief time as an apprentice. He was drafted in 1958 and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 – 1960 stationed at Fort Shafter Honolulu Hawaii. After the Army, he became a full time dairy farmer with his wife of 57 years by his side taking care of 167 cows and was also a bus driver for Wilson Bus Line.
He served many years as Director of Massachusetts Cooperative Milk Producers Federation. He received farmer of the year 2004 and 1993 given by the Worcester County League of Sportsman’s Club. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Association.
He loved farming, hunting, trout and striper fishing, country music and baseball.
He leaves his wife of 57 years Alice M. (Lawrence) Laine of South Road in Templeton; son, Lawrence P. Laine of French Road in Templeton; one daughter, Tammy J. (Laine) Vogel and her husband Richard A. Vogel of South Road Templeton; son Lloyd D. Laine and his wife Deidra (Kinsey) Laine and their sons, Corey P. Laine, Cody J. Laine and Andrew M. Laine all of French Road in Templeton; son Leonard R. Laine and his wife Rhonda L. (Frisch) Laine and their son Ryan L. Laine also of French Road in Templeton; son Lance W. Laine of East Templeton; one brother, Daniel R. Laine of South Road Templeton.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by many aunts, uncles and cousins, a brother-in-law, a grandson Clayton M. Laine, a granddaughter Megan E. Laine both of Templeton, MA and a brother Ronald (Rocky) Laine of Hubbardston, MA .
A memorial service will be held Friday, July 31st at 2:00 PM at the Massachusetts Veterans’ Cemetery in Winchendon, MA, followed by a gathering at the Otter River Sportsman’s Club, 250 Lord Rd., Baldwinville.
